Dark Places of the Earth
Garund is the more southern of the two continents in the Inner Sea Region. It has been the home of the earliest civilizations to rise out of the Age of Anguish many thousands of years ago, as well, it is said, of even more ancient human societies who were the comtemporaries of Old Azlant. The people of Avistan and Absalom are mostly familiar with the northen and eastern coasts of the continent, deserts and arid plains that once made up the Empire of Osirion, and which are still inhabited by the descendents of the Osirian people, collectively known as the Garundi.
Although the nation of Osirion still stands along the banks of the great rivers that gave rise to its ancient civilization, the coasts of Garund are now claimed by a half dozen nations, ranging from the atheistic city-states of Rahadoum to the bustling markets of Katapesh and the cursed, undead-ruled land of Geb. Inland from these coastal states, seperated from the Inner Sea by high mountains and the eternal storm of the Eye of Abendego, lie the tropical and densely-forested lands known collectively as the Mwangi Expanse. Extending from just south of the Osiriani desert into the unknown southernmost reaches of Garund, the Expanse is home to a diverse array of city-states and tribes all but unknown to northern folk. Although many of thse lands are populated by lizardfolk, elves, or even stranger races, human cultures thrive here as well, a group of related peoples referred to by outsiders simply as the Mwangi.
